The saturated fats in coconut oil are not the same as other saturated fats that can cause cardiovascular disease. The saturated fat of coconut oil is nearly all medium chain fatty acids and these little beauties digest much quicker than the long chain fatty acids found in nearly all other saturated fats. It gets broken down straight into fatty acids and doesn’t circulate into the blood stream like the long chain ones that cause all the cardiovascular problems. Because of this they are not stored as FAT CELLS whoohoo; they are used as energy.

You can get 4 types of coconut oil, refined, virgin, hydrogenated and fractionated. The only one to ever consume is virgin and ideally organic.
Refined is deodorized and bleached (odourless, tasteless and colourless). Hydrogenated is through process called hydrogenation, which is where hydrogen molecules are added to the oil and Fractionated oil is a process of dividing the oil into smaller and quantities all of which are bad. The virgin process is extracted from the fresh coconut kernel without any chemical and mechanical processes and retains its lovely taste and smell.

50% of coconut oil is Lauric acid, which is only found in abundance in breast milk. This just shows how good it is for you. You can’t beat your mother’s milk for health and nutrients. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid and it is anti viral, antibacterial and anti fungal. Therefore helping to build a strong immune system. It helps prevent heart problems, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Medium chain fatty acid helps take off excessive fats and helps a healthy function of your thyroid and enzyme systems keeping your hormones balanced. It increases the body’s metabolic rate as its removes stress of the pancreas by burning straight to energy and also stress off the liver as it never reaches it, so a must for our detox.

Coconut oil helps our body absorb vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It helps control blood sugar, secretion of insulin and untilzation of glucose so will help treat or prevent diabetes and also fat storage around your middle area. Insulin spikes increase the hormone cortisol, which is the cause of the fat storage around your middle area (that needs to be explained in another article). Because of coconut oils ability to control blood sugar and insulin it helps curb those sugar cravings we all have.

Coconut oil is less sensitive to heat than other oils as it will not oxidise as easily. Other fats oxidise quite quickly even whilst it is on the shelf and this makes them become very toxic to the body and causes widespread free-radical change. Causing major stress on the liver.

As you can see from the above coconut oil is amazing for health and in terms of us detoxing and getting rid of fat. I would recommend you replace your olive oil with coconut oil to cook and bake with and try to consume every day. Olive oil has great health benefits so use this as dressings the same with other nut oils and avocado oil Just do not use vegetable oils.
